But the region offers actually also a beautiful countryside, full of treasures, beautiful trekking areas, rural areas, bucolic countryside and natural reserve areas which are the best place where to enjoy hiking and walking tours that will let you fall in love with this region.

We offer different hiking trips that you can enjoy while in Puglia. Here below you can see some of the most requested ones and a possible walking one week itinerary of Puglia.

Day 1

Pick up service and welcome dinner

We welcome you at the airport/train station and drive you to the accommodation. In the evening we go out for a welcome dinner in a restaurant. Indulge yourself with the colors, tastes and scents of Apulian cuisine, which call to mind the generous harvests of a luxurious countryside.

Day 2

Hiking tour in the apulian countryside and visit of Ostuni

We will begin with a hiking tour in the middle of the fantastic countryside aroung Ostuni. Here we will hike about 2/3 hours (depending on you preparation) and we will admire the beautiful apulian countryside with beautiful and very ancient olive trees, mediterranean herbs, dry-stone walls. We will walk to a farmhouse “masseria” and  see the most beautfiul and ancient olive trees of the area and an undreground olive oil mill which dates back to the pre-roman age. Here we will also have an olive oil tasting. After the hiking tour we will head to Ostuni. The white city of Ostuni sits atop the last hill of the southern Murgia plateau. During a trip to Puglia is definitely a place to see. We will take a walking tour through narrow streets lined with white-washed buildings, ending at the town’s sophisticated Gothic cathedral. 

Day 3

Hiking tour: Murgia dei Trulli and visit of Alberobello

We will begin with a hiking tour in the middle of the fantastic Itria Valley, while hiking (about 2/3 hours walking) we will admire the beautiful apulian countryside with beautiful and very ancient olive trees, mediterranean herbs, dry-stone walls and the “Trulli”. After the hiking tour we will head to UNESCO WHS Alberobello. With its timeless, fairy-tale beauty, the town is Itria Valley’s premier location to see trulli, the cone-shaped houses distinctive to Apulia, making it the most enchanting part of Italy’s heel.

Day 4

Torre Guaceto natural reserve and olive oil farm visit and tasting

Take an exciting hiking tour (about 2 hours) through one of the most spectacular natural areas along the lower Adriatic Sea, the nature and marine reserve of Torre Guaceto. We will explore the protected marine area with its cliffs, bays, wetlands, and fresh water pools. The area is home to many plant and animal species. Our hike will end at the charming 16th Century tower that gives the park its name. From there, you will take in the breathtaking view of the horizon, where the turquoise blue sky melts into the Adriatic Sea. After that, we will visit a traditional olive oil mill. Here, we will taste different extra vergin olive oils and admire the beauty of the apulian countryside. After that, we will discover the “green gold of Puglia”. We will visit a traditional olive oil factory. Here, we we will learn about the traditional method of olive oil process, which uses granite millstones, as well as themodern processing system. We will taste seven different extra virgin olive oils produced by this olive oil farm in the heart of the wonderful Itria Valley.

Day 5

Riding into history.. bike tour of the via Traiana 

We will take a bike tour along coastal dunes, where you will discover the ancient rural landscape of Puglia. The ancient road, built by Emperor Trajan, is lined with dry-stone walls and centuries-old olive trees that protrude like odd-shaped monuments that contrast with the red earth and golden grain fields. The bike tour lasts a few hours and its level is pretty easy to do even if you are not an expert biker.

Day 6

 

Caves of Castellana, natural wonder

On this day you will check out in Ostuni and first drive to Castellana Caves. The beautiful Castellana caves are the magical expression of nature’s tireless work over millions of years. In this natural phenomenon, you will recognize spectacular spires that reminiscent of Gothic cathedrals, as well as mythical animals and ancient trees. The guided tour focuses on one of the most complex and spectacular underground karst cave systems in Italy. Discover more about Caves of Castellana
After the visit of the Caves you will drive to Matera and check in at your new accommodation.

Day 7

Hiking tour Murgia Materana and visit of UNESCO Sassi di Matera

The day will start a fantastic hiking tour in the “Parco della Murgia Materana”. Going to Murgia Timone it is possible to visit the Murgia plateau overlooking the Sassi, enjoying a stunning panorama of the whole Sassi area which is on the other side of the canyon. Duration hiking tour: h 2:00 / 3:00. After the hiking tour you will enjoy a guided walking visit of the UNESCO “Sassi” of Matera.

Day 8

Pick up service to airport/train station

Check out at your accommodation in Matera. We drive you back to the airport/train station to tell you “arrivederci” and thanks for this amazing week in Puglia together!
